According to Hindu tradition, physical and spiritual purity are crucial before starting any Vedic prayers. Prior to the pooja, the priests bathe, wear clean traditional dhoti, clean the temple altar, and gather all the necessary pure materials including fresh flowers, fruits, coconut, sesame seeds, ghee, and scriptural texts.
Sankalpam is the solemn vow made by the devotee before starting the ritual. Even for online poojas, the priests chant the names, birth star (Nakshatra), moon sign (Rasi), and family lineage (Gotra) of the devotee, dedicating the spiritual power of the prayers to their specific ancestors and family lineage.
Every Vedic ritual starts with the worship of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. A brief Ganapathi Pooja is conducted to invoke his presence, seeking his protection and blessings for the smooth and successful completion of the ancestral prayers.
A copper or silver pot (Kalasha) filled with holy water, mango leaves, and coconut is installed. The priests chant sacred mantras to invoke the presence of divine waters and deities into the Kalasha, which is then used to purify the ritual arena and the offerings.
The priests perform the core prayers, offering sesame seeds, pure ghee, and sacred herbs to the fire deity (Agni). According to traditional beliefs, Agni acts as the messenger, conveying the devotion and gratitude of the family to their ancestors in Pitru Loka.
Dedicated stotrams and mantras from the Vedic texts are recited to seek peace, spiritual elevation, and blessings. Devotees participate remotely by listening to the chants and maintaining a meditative state of devotion and remembrance.
The final offerings, including silk cloth, herbs, and coconut, are offered to the sacred fire with specific Vedic chants. This marks the successful and complete culmination of the Aadi Amavasya Homam and Pooja.
Devotees receive concluding Vedic blessings from the temple priests. Swaaminarayan Temple promptly shares the recorded video confirmation and ritual updates via WhatsApp/email, ensuring complete peace of mind and spiritual closure.
